BellyBasics Class Recap – February 24, 2025
Another fantastic session filled with dynamic movement, rhythm exploration, and choreography refinement! Here’s a breakdown of what we covered in class:
1. Technique Focus: Steps & Isolations
Back and Forth Step: Practicing smooth weight transfers, ensuring balance and control while maintaining fluidity in movement.
Large Hip Circle: Emphasizing full range of motion, keeping movements strong and intentional to enhance hip articulation.
2. Combination Drills
Drop Kick + Chest Rotation: Coordinating lower and upper body movements to create dynamic accents.
Drop Kick + Turn: Integrating turns smoothly while maintaining grounded footwork.
Shimmy Step Front & Back + Arms: Layering shimmies with directional movement and elegant arm positioning.
3. Choreography Progress: Habibi Ya Einy Drum Solo
Starting from 1:30 in the song, we worked on the energetic drum solo section, adding exciting layers to our choreography:
Zaki Step to the Side: Mastering this signature movement with controlled hip accents.
Shimmy to the Side: Focusing on continuous vibration while traveling.
Shimmy Layered with Hip Circle: Combining sharp and fluid elements to bring texture to the performance.
4. Class Takeaways & Next Steps
Students showcased great progress in technique refinement and musicality. In the next class, we will continue polishing the drum solo section and explore more layering techniques.
